Mariarchi Event Summary

Mariachi Event Update:
A great success!
Raised over $4000 for the CCFD#9 and just over $1600 for the club's expenses.
Tallies still aren't final as last payments come in.

Kahler Glen is glad to show our support for the firefighters of our community.

Kahler Glen Athletic Club welcomed new members Gary and Carolyn Bell, who own a house on Lake Wenatchee and work in the Puget Sound area, were the successful bidders on the initiation fee.

We celebrated the 60th wedding anniversary of Pat and Claude Munsell and recognized that we are going to miss Claude and Pat here at Kahler Glen when they move to Wenatchee this fall.

The Mariachi Event was well attended and well organized, and staffed by volunteers from the club and from the surrounding community.  Kaye Marks was the event planner and worker bee the whole night and recruited items for the silent auction as well as brought in additional volunteers to assist with the BBQ.  Members of the board and club put in a great deal of work on the day of the event as well as the day after.

Special thanks to the firefighters, for bringing their rescue truck and turn-out suit to give us visual inspiration.  From the local community we had the assistance of George Wilson with set-up and hauling.  Jimi Wilson, Barbara Schmitten, Pat Bottoms and Marion Brittain helped set-up and managed the food service.  From KG we received assistance from Mike Olmstead and the staff at the restaurant in accessing the walk-in cooler to keep our meat and ice ready and loaning three tables.

Special thanks go out to board member Kaye Crandall and Carol Pierce who assisted with the silent auction display set-up, former board member Lee Naffz who served as our bartender for the evening, board member Mark Demeritt who was the BBQ chef and chief grill-master for the evening, board member Thom Cook and his golf cart for retrieving hamburgers and ice from the restaurant, and Rob Casad with his trailer and golf cart to set up and clean up and do gofer work in between. Former board member Nancy Graham and Tom were there to help with our set up activity and much appreciated.  Board member Gary Marks helped coordinate the event and worked the entire evening.  Sandy Lund and her golf cart were drafted into emergency duty when the propane tank went dry and the second one needed to be retrieved.  Nancy Miller learned to process credit cards, and is now ready for retail sales and long hours.

The food was great, the beverages were cold, and a good time seemed to be had by everybody.  The kids enjoyed the piñata; talk with the volunteer fire fighters, and inspecting the new rescue truck.  The Mariachi Band arrived later than expected, but for those that stayed to listen, the music was wonderful.

We are in the middle of fire season.  At least four helicopters are now stationed at the Lake Wenatchee emergency airport (near the Lake Wenatchee Recreation Center that the Community Association uses for annual meetings), fighting fires in the surrounding area.  If you were unable to attend this event and still want to show your support for the local fire department, send your check to the CCFD#9 Firefighter Association, in care of the Kahler Glen Athletic Club at 20625 Haight Drive, Leavenworth, WA 98826 and we will make sure they get your contribution.

We will be posting pictures from the event.  We hope you were there, and we hope to see you there again next year!

Sincerely,
Bill Miller
President, KGAC
