Fall 2012: Report to the Kahler Glen Athletic Club members October 3, 2012
Membership remains relatively stable with 103 members. This includes; 82 Charter/General memberships, three Long Term memberships and two new Adopt–a-family memberships, and 16 Midweek memberships.
Since the annual meeting in May where we received approval to process, we have completed three major projects.
1.We were able to refinance the major loan with Cashmere Valley Bank at a significantly lower interest rate – from 7.75% to 5.25%.
2.In order to secure this new interest rate we were required to purchase the leased land, this we did for $32.5K. $22.5 went to the Kahler Glen Resort and $10K went to Glenn Week. The increased property tax to the club is minimal.
3.We have replaced the failing dehumidifier. It stopped working in late June. The club immediately requested bids and then placed an order. This installation was completed in early September. We are lucky that this equipment did not fail in the middle of winter when outside temperatures are in the teens and the pool temperature is above 83 degrees. The cost of this project was more than $43K.
The new bank loan includes the replacement cost of the dehumidifier, the cost of the land purchase and the repayment of $60K of private loans built into plan. At this time we have one large loan with Cashmere Valley Bank for $614K and one private loan that is due in 2015 for $20K. The board approved this plan as it creates stability in our financial planning. Our property assessment exceeds $1.5M.
A minor repair was also completed this summer. With the high temperatures in late July, the air conditioning system above the women’s locker room was working over-time. However, the drain pipe from the pan under the air conditioner unit was not connected during construction and this resulted in water leaking from behind the women’s toilet onto the floor. Until we removed the siding from the outside wall, we thought the water came from a pin-hole leak. Lucky us, this repair was relatively inexpensive.
The Adopt-a-family plan is still available if you have a neighbor or friend who wants to join the club. See the KGAC website for details
The Summer Music and BBQ event was successful. We had the State Park XC groomer on site and were able to recruit additional volunteers to help with two winter athletic activities. This includes helping with brush cutting XC trails in our area, which will take place during October and also helping the State Park with packing down their snowshoe trails once the snow arrives. Contact me if you would like to help on either of these activities.
Here is a list of the current KG Athletic Club board members; Kaye Crandall, Mark Demeritt, Steve Craig, Ann Reynolds, Gary Marks – VP and Treasurer, Nancy Miller – Secretary and myself Bill Miller – President.
Invoices for the Nov – April dues will be emailed out in a couple of weeks. Your continued support is essential.
A new Automatic Emergency Defibrillator has been installed at the club.
This is thanks to the Cascade Hospital District. They provided a class in which more than dozen members participated and received instructions on how to use the AED and also receive their CPR certification.
Thanks to Kaye Marks for setting up for the club!

Yet to be done: 1. the lights in the pool area on the large columns; e-bulbs or continue with the present system and
2. replace the timers on the Spa jets to eliminate the option of ‘Hold’, as those jets have run all night at times.
Yet to be determined: A summer social event. Last summer we sponsored the Mariachi Band & Auction event and at this time we are starting to discuss options.
Members are reminded to act as a supervisor when you are using the facilities. Please report any damage or problems that you observed and the time of the observation as soon as possible. Our Access Card system records the time of entry by a member’s card, but not when a member leaves or whether it was the member using the card. On a yearly basis, we do not experience very much vandalism or damage to our facilities. However, it does happen and prompt reporting helps to get the problems resolved.
Remember to remind members and guests that no glass container or food in the pool/spa area.
KGAC members are asked to encourage non-AC members to come in for a free days pass to try out our club and to join the fun.The Board.
